Reports and Discussion Papers
Invitational Meeting of Experts on Arrangement – Report
On October 15th and 16th 2004, a group of 14 experts met in Ottawa to explore the desirability and feasibility of developing standards for the arrangement of archival documents. The initiative for the meeting came from the CCA’s Standards Committee. The Committee identified arrangement as a fruitful area of exploration on the grounds that such work would complement the descriptive standards work that has been accomplished.
InterPARES 1 – Strategies Task Force Report
Between 1999 and 2002, the first phase of the International Research in Permanent Authentic Records in Electronic Systems (InterPARES I) Project investigated the issues associated with the long-term preservation of authentic electronic records. InterPARES I developed a set of principles that should guide the development of international strategies and standards for the long-term preservation of authentic electronic records, along with criteria for developing national and organizational policies and strategies. The principles and criteria, which are contained in the Report of the Strategies Task Force, distil the findings and final recommendations of the Authenticity, Appraisal, and Preservation Task Forces of InterPARES I. The Report of the Strategies Task Force has been mounted on the CCA Standards Committee Web site to promote community discussion of the principles and criteria and to encourage their testing and implementation in archival institutions and Programmes. For more information about the InterPARES Project, visit its Web site at http://www.interpares.org.
InterPARES 1 – Requirements for Assessing and Maintaining the Authenticity of Electronic Records
Between 1999 and 2002, the first phase of the International Research in Permanent Authentic Records in Electronic Systems (InterPARES I) Project investigated the issues associated with the long-term preservation of authentic electronic records. The Authenticity Task Force of InterPARES I developed a set of benchmark requirements for assessing the authenticity of electronic records as part of the appraisal process as well as a set of baseline requirements for maintaining the authenticity of electronic records once they have been transferred to the custody of the institution or program responsible for their long-term preservation. The Requirements for Assessing and Maintaining the Authenticity of Electronic Records has been mounted on the CCA Standards Committee Web site to promote community discussion of the benchmark and baseline requirements and to encourage their testing and implementation in archival institutions and Programmes. For more information about the InterPARES Project, visit its website at http://www.interpares.org.
